Wine Art Estate

Behind Techni Oinou Estate are Giannis Papadopoulos, a civil engineer, and Giannis Kalaitzidis, an architect, both successful professionals.

 

The story began in 1993, when Giannis Papadopoulos invested his passion in a small family vineyard in Mikrochori, Drama. At the same time, he established a modest winery where he began making wine as a hobby and for personal satisfaction.

 

Two years later, in 1995, Giannis Kalaitzidis joined the winery.

 

The creation of Techni Oinou Estate then became a reality, marked by the release of its first wines: the white, rosé and red “Techni Alypias” range, which quickly earned a place among Greece’s new generation of quality wines.

 

The estate’s goal is to showcase the excellent adaptation of selected international and Greek grape varieties to the ecosystem of Drama. Another step towards achieving this goal came in 1999 with the release of the Chardonnay “Idysma Drios”, which launched the estate’s “Idysma Drios” single-varietal wine series. It was gradually followed by Assyrtiko, Merlot, and Xinomavro.

 

In 2011, the estate released its single-varietal “Techni” Malagouzia and “Techni” Assyrtiko, which have since been renamed “Plano” Malagouzia and “Plano” Assyrtiko. More recent additions include the red “Touriga Nacional” and the rosé “Pink Bang”, both produced from the same Portuguese grape variety. In exceptional vintages, “Nebbio” (made from the Nebbiolo variety) is also released in limited quantities.

 

The elegant, contemporary Techni Oinou Estate Winery is located on the outskirts of the village of Mikrochori, Drama. The first section of the winery was built in 1995, followed by an extension on the opposite side of the adjacent road in 2007. The project was completed in 2008, revealing two tastefully designed building complexes. The two towers, built in parallel at the ends of the complexes, are fine examples of architectural harmony and elegance.

 

The two buildings are connected by an underground tunnel, which has been converted into an ageing wine cellar.
