Nico Lazaridi Winery – The Birth of Passion, the Birth of Wine.

 

A love of history and art, combined with a passion for wine, inspired Nikos Lazaridi to create one of Greece’s leading wineries.

 

NICO LAZARIDI is widely recognised as one of the pioneering wineries that, since its foundation more than 35 years ago, has contributed to the revival of Greek wine and the re-establishment of the Drama region as an important wine-producing area.

 

In the late 1970s, Nikos Lazaridi decided to turn his great passion for the world of wine into a professional career. He focused on the Regional Unit of Drama, his birthplace, bringing with him the experience he had gained while living in Tuscany for several years. He began planting vineyards in different locations and, with a pioneering spirit, founded the first viticulture and winemaking company in the Drama region in 1987. The Nikos Lazaridi family remains the sole shareholder of this first winery established in Drama.

 

Among the different terroirs of Drama, he chose the Agora area for his new vineyards because of its ideal location, unique landscape and long-standing winemaking tradition. In 1997, he built the Château Nico Lazaridi Winery in a strategic location overlooking the entire plain and the imposing Mount Pangaion.

 

Within the winery, the famous “Magic Mountain” Art Gallery was created, housing works by the artists who designed the winery’s wine labels, while the common areas are also decorated with works of art.

 

With the aim of making the most of the products of the wider Macedonian region and producing modern, high-quality wines, the MAKEDON Winery was established in 2000 on the foothills of Mount Pangaion.

 

Today, NICO LAZARIDI produces more than 1,400,000 bottles of wine annually and exports its products to 21 countries around the world.
